Thank ACE Update Magazine, for hosting an insightful session on Net Zero in Airports
As climate change intensifies, the journey toward net zero and green airports is more pressing than ever. Drawing from our work at Conserve, our MD ……highlighted three top challenges on this path:
Net Zero Carbon & Accreditation
While many Indian airports achieve high levels of carbon accreditation, true “net zero carbon” requires a rigorous, data-driven approach, at least for Scope 1 and 2, and not just offsetting through offsite green power. The lack of credible, India-specific guidelines makes genuine innovation both essential and challenging.
A Need for Airport-Specific Green Ratings
India’s airports currently rely on commercial building rating systems, which don’t address airport-specific complexities. We urgently need dedicated green rating systems and benchmarks for airports, so professionals have clear standards for improvement.
Water Management & Climate Resilience
Managing rainwater and flood risks over massive campuses is a major challenge, especially with changing climate patterns. Design and operational boundaries often don’t align, leading to discrepancies in achieving net-zero water targets.
Let’s connect the dots from design to operation and work together to create robust standards that support both sustainability and community resilience.
